Between concrete and gravity (poem)

I’m beginning to be subsumed
by this artificial land
I’m forgetting how to tell
the time by feeling it
I feel like a desolate house
patiently enduring the elements
waiting for the invisible force
of nature to return me to dust
or a barely perceptible ruins
beneath new topsoil

Suddenly long hair and earthy
bright colours seem unappealing
and I feel drawn to shaper edges
polyester conversations
blunt collars and more makeup
I’m falling in love with this
game show life, no.
I’m letting it have me
The chaos is so persistent
it almost resembles flirtation.

I’m letting the city love me
letting the hard pavement that
reaches up to slap my feet
squeeze my soft heart
between concrete and gravity.
